Sports Physiotherapy at Body Lab

Sports physiotherapists support all active individuals, from the elite to amateur athletes. They help manage long term conditions, as well as new injuries. Sports physiotherapy is for any active individual who wants to learn more about the biomechanics of their sport, prevent injury and improve performance.

At Body Lab, we are lucky enough to have APA Titled Sports Physiotherapists who work with elite athletes including those on the Australian Diving Team, Tennis Australia and the Olympic Gymnastics Team. Our Physiotherapists have a keen interest in gymnastics, diving, swimming, cheer and dance, ballet, aerial and circus arts, tennis, running, football, soccer, basketball, golf, hockey and rugby.

What Are the Benefits of Sports Physiotherapy?

Pain relief : Our physiotherapists can help ease pain via manual therapy, dry needling, massage, joint mobilisations and taping, which can provide support and release tension in the areas of the body causing pain. They can also guide you through the acute stages of injury to reduce pain and enhance recovery.

Injury rehabilitation: Many athletes experience a spectrum of injuries over their time in sport. Our physiotherapists go beyond treating your injury. We analyse your movement patterns to uncover the root cause. By correcting biomechanical imbalances, we help you recover faster, move better, and reduce the risk of future injury.

Injury prevention: Checking in regularly with your physiotherapist can help identify areas of weakness, tightness or hypermobility that could predispose you to injury. If you get onto these things early you can prevent injury from occurring and improve sporting performance.

Rehabilitation programs that focus on your sport: At Body Lab, due to the variety of interests of our physiotherapists, we are able to provide tailored training programs to both enhance sports performance and rehabilitate any injuries. Our physiotherapists have a strong understanding of healing time frames, and managing injuries around training schedules and competition timelines.

Common sports injuries we treat:

  • Muscle strains (e.g. calf, hamstring, hip flexors and adductors)

  • Tendinopathies (e.g. hamstring, adductor, gluteal, rotator cuff, tennis or golfer’s elbow and achilles)

  • Tendon tears/ruptures (e.g achilles, hamstring, biceps)

  • Dislocations and subluxations

  • Return to sport after concussion
